Latest Research Suggests 21% of Paid Installs are Fraudulent image

Scalarr, a machine learning based fraud detection company, has recently released its latest report “The Rise of Mobile App Install Ad Fraud. 2018 Outcomes,” indicating that 21% of all marketing-driven installs in 2018 were fraudulent. The study also contains projections of the possible damage mobile app install ad fraud is likely to cause in 2019.

E-commerce and finance apps have the highest share of fraudulent installs, with entertainment and games categories following closely behind. The growth of fraudulent installs is nevertheless significant across all mobile app categories.

While the main focus of this report is the mobile app install ad fraud landscape, it also provides a deep insight into the current state of the fraud detection techniques, including best practices that app developers should follow to ensure fraud protection.

“The Rise of Mobile App Install Ad Fraud. 2018 Outcomes” is the annual assessment of mobile app install fraud worldwide, across all app categories, and is based on data gathered by the Scalarr’s team of data scientists and data analysts throughout the year, as a result of analyzing over 22 billion events and more than 170 million installs, out of which 35.7 were flagged as fraudulent. In 2018 Scalarr uncovered 18 totally new fraud patterns.
